- Engineer and Optimize Data Models: Your primary focus will be on engineering the data transformation layer. You will architect and build the SQL and Python logic that converts raw fact tables into optimized, analysis-ready models for our reporting platforms.
- Masterful Query Performance: Write, debug, and optimize complex SQL queries in Redshift and Hive (Presto). You are expected to be an expert in query performance, using techniques like data chunking and execution plan analysis to ensure fast and cost-effective data retrieval.
- Data Engineering with Python: Utilize Python and its libraries (e.g., Pandas) for sophisticated data manipulation, validation, and preparation tasks where SQL is not sufficient.
- Orchestrate Data Workflows: Implement and maintain robust Airflow DAGs to orchestrate complex data workflows. You will be responsible for the scheduling, execution, and monitoring of these critical jobs.
- Uphold Data Integrity: Apply engineering rigor to data quality. You will proactively monitor, identify, and resolve issues in the data pipelines, treating data accuracy as a top-priority feature.
- Enable Business Intelligence: Partner with stakeholders to understand reporting needs and provide the clean, well-structured backend data required by BI platforms like Superset, Tableau, and Power BI.
- Experience: 4+ years in a data engineering, BI engineering, or a similar role with a strong focus on data modeling and query optimization. Experience in an e-commerce or a related high-volume transactional data environment is a strong plus.
- Expert-Level SQL: This is the most critical skill for the role. You must have demonstrated mastery of SQL and a deep understanding of how to write high-performance queries in a cloud data warehouse (Redshift) and data lake (Presto/Hive) context.
- Data-Focused Python Skills: Strong proficiency in Python for data engineering tasks, including advanced data manipulation with libraries like Pandas and scripting for workflow automation.
- Workflow Orchestration: Hands-on experience with an orchestration system like Airflow, including authoring, scheduling, and monitoring complex DAGs.
- Performance-Oriented Mindset: You are driven to find the most efficient solution to a problem. You naturally analyze performance and cost and are always looking for ways to optimize.
- BI Systems Knowledge: A solid understanding of how BI tools work and how to best engineer backend tables to support their functionality.
